As a commitment to our patients, Dr. McIntyre has incorporated Oral Cancer Screening into the standard care for the most complete exam possible.

It is recommended that all adult patients have an oral cancer exam annually and can be done during your annual check-up. It could be Life Saving!!

Oral cancer is the sixth deadliest cancer in the world, claiming one life an hour here in the United States. The majority of oral cancer cases are not diagnosed until later stages when the survival rate is low.

A new technology called VelScope when used with conventional head and neck examination, improves to identify, evaluate, and monitor suspicious areas at their earliest stages. It is a non-invasive, painless test. Velscope is the only FDA-cleared technology device for the identification and monitoring of oral abnormalities that could lead to oral cancer.

Periodontal disease (Gum disease) is painless infection of the gums that affects millions of Americans, the number one cause of tooth loss.

The bacteria that causes periodontal disease has also been linked to heart disease, diabetes and pre-term, low birth-weight babies. Signs and symptoms of periodontal disease include swollen and bleeding gums, bad breath that will not go away, loose or shifting teeth, or pus under the gums.

Periodontal disease can result in serious consequences and needs immediate attention. Treatment will vary depending on the progression of the disease. This can be determined through dental x-rays and an exam by your dentist and hygienist. The most effective initial treatment consists of scaling and root planing (also known as deep cleaning) in conjunction with antibiotic treatment.

We believe in treating our patients at the highest standard of care.  We give you the option of  tooth-colored fillings, “resin or composite” as oppose to “amalgam” silver fillings.

Tooth-colored fillings offer several important advantages over silver fillings. With resin fillings, we are able to treat decayed teeth much more conservatively because they actually bond to tooth structure.
Resin provides durability and resistance to fractures in small to moderate sized fillings. Their properties are very similar to those of teeth, allowing them to function well in the oral environment, blending with natural tooth enamel, physically stronger, and much more cosmetic than silver fillings.

Do you Know?...
Bruxism (from the Greek βρυγμός (brugmós), gnashing of teeth) is the grinding of the teeth, and is typically accompanied by the clenching of the jaw. It is an oral parafunctional activity that occurs in most humans at some time in their lives. In most people, bruxism is mild enough not to be a health problem.

While bruxism may be a diurnal or nocturnal activity, it is bruxism during sleep which causes the majority of health issues, and can even occur during short naps. Bruxism is one of the most common sleep disorders. Numerous articles have incorrectly cited bruxism as being a reflex chewing activity, but bruxism is more accurately classified as a habit. Reflex activities happen reliably in response to a stimulus, without involvement of subconscious brain.
